What’s involved in installing a website?

Ah, it must be simple you might say – if you’ve never done it before. Well dispel that notion for it’s digital data and that in itself can present problems. All it takes is for any little thing to go wrong and it could ruin whatever you are trying to do. Ask any programmer does he ever have problems with little “simple” things. You’ll probably hear something like “It’s the little things that give me all the problems and headaches.”

I’ve been using WordPress since about 2005, and have been installing my own Wordpress sites since then. In addition I have installed and even written my own and other sites in html and a little bit of php since 2003. I know many of the problems that can easily happen with installing and using websites, especially WordPress.

I have many applicable skills, but 90% or more of my business is WordPress-related consulting. If you want to put up a website in most cases you can use a WordPress website. Wordpress websites make use of WordPress plugins, and I can install them if you have no web experience in such things. I can also advise you as to whether your particular application can make use of a Wordpress website.

Why use Wordpress? Cost! It is free or very low cost compared to other types of websites. It generally requires no coding in most cases and that brings your cost down considerably. In many cases you can do things yourself. But for those who cannot, or don’t want to learn, or don’t want to take the chance of something going wrong and not knowing how to fix it, I am here to help.

Do you want a specific design?

I’m a programmer, a developer, and an idea person – not a graphic designer. Although I could design a website and have designed a few, I am not in the business of designing websites. If you need someone to design a look for your website, look elsewhere. I’m the one to install your site and make sure it works the way you want. If I don’t know how to do something I have the right connections to solve your problem.

All that being said, I can help you out in a different way if you want a certain look for your website. I can spend the time (and it usually takes a lot of time) searching and examining the plethora of free and paid Wordpress themes for you at a minimum cost. I can get and install a particular theme for you. In addition, I have themes available myself, that I can customize for you.

I am a programmer with over thirty years experience working with some of the biggest corporations in the U.S. I have been working with PC’s since 1985 commercially and before that on my own. I have designed several intranet applications and many many desktop and online applications.
